  • Video Game Addiction

If you were born after 1990 you probably grew up with a great deal of technology in your life. You were probably given a handheld video game as a kid to keep you busy when you were bored. You more than likely had a game console that you used with other siblings, family member or alone. Chances are high it may have been a go to activity after school or when your homework was done if you had limits set by your parents.

Then you discovered that you had a cell phone and now had 24/7, anywhere any time access to these things. It is not surprising that this has become a problem in our world today. When we are exposed to anything that over stimulates the pleasure center of the brain, there is a great risk for addiction. If that word seems impossible, just remember that as human beings if we do pleasurable activities for long periods of time we tend to get hooked – and what once was the answer to a problem, is now the problem.

Although many people refuse to accept that becoming “screen dependent” or a “problematic digital user” is an issue ask yourself if you suffer from one or more of these issues:

    • Gaming or being online for hours at a time.
    • Binge-viewing others playing games.
    • Staying up all night and not dealing with responsibilities during the day.
    • Engaging in social media or other virtual activities for much longer than planned.
    • Losing interest in school, work, hobbies, social life, or spending time with friends.
